Welcome to the "Echo by Web" website. This site is bilingual and most of the information may be accessed both in english and italian. Use the flag symbol, when available on the page
( , ), to switch language.

The main feature of this website is the echocardiography atlas, both transthoracic and transesophageal. Presently, only still frame images can be found on the site; in the future, videoclips will be inserted, matching all present still frame images. All the images have been personally scanned and edited by the author of the website, unless otherwise stated.

To view the implemented video clips:

1.
Download and install the free VP3 codec v. 3.2.5.0 (On2 Technologies™) at: http://www.vp3.com/getvp3/
(Visualization problems with  Nvidia and Ati Radeon video cards have been recently fixed).

2.
Click on still frames to view video clips as indicated (when available).

Copyright notice. All the material available on the website is - by definition - copyrighted. However, the images (which are uniquely identified by a number) may be downloaded for personal use or for teaching purposes.

Site Structure

This site is structured on 3 levels. Levels 1 and 2 are displayed on the Site Map page.  Plese visit this page for a general overview of the website.

The pages of the first level - which are introductory to the different sections of this website - are listed on the Home Page and on the Introduction page. The sections of this website are:
1. The echocardiographic atlases
2. The monthly image
3. Reference material for the echocardiographic examination
4. Teaching material
5. Links relative to cardiology and echocardiography
6. The author's digital echocardiography project
7. Information on the author of the Web site.

The pages of the second level present the topics in which each section is divided (in the case of the echocardiographic examination, for example: The Echo Report; Normal and Reference Values; Formulas and Calculations; Exam Quality; References; Guidelines)

The third level (lowest) is not shown on the Site Map and  includes the atlases image pages and tables of external links of this web site.

When in doubt, you can always find a link to the Home Page or to this Help Page at the bottom of each website page.

Atlas Structure

There are four echocardiographic atlases:

1. A
Transthoracic Normal Atlas
Entry to this atlas is through a graphical representation of the major echocardiographic cross-sectional view planes. Clicking on a plane will lead to images of normal anatomy relative to that view plane.

2. A
Transesophageal Normal Atlas
Entry to this Atlas is through a series of thumbnails that describe the main views and modalities of the transesophageal examination, or through a graphic representation of the different scan planes of the heart. Clicking on the thumbnails will take to the corresponding normal echocardiographic anatomy.

3. A
Transthoracic Pathology Atlas
The index of the Atlas is sorted by Pathology, it includes most cardiac diseases, and is divided in four pages:
                       1. Valvulopathy
                       2. Valvular Prosthesis; Ischemic Heart Disease; Cardiomyopathies
                       3. Other; Pericardium; Aortic Aneurysms; Masses; Thrombi;
                           Congenital Heart Disease
                       4. Diagnostic Pitfalls
Click on the disease cathegory to expand the tree-structured index. Then click on the case number to go to the Clinical Case images.

4. A
Transesophageal Pathology Atlas
The index of the Atlas is sorted by Pathology, it includes most cardiac diseases, and is divided in four pages:
                       1. Valvulopathy
                       2. Valvular Prosthesis; Ischemic Heart Disease; Cardiomyopathies
                       3. Other; Pericardium; Aortic Aneurysms; Masses; Thrombi;
                           Congenital Heart Disease
                       4. Diagnostic Pitfalls
Click on the disease cathegory to expand the tree-structured index. Then click on the case number to go to the Clinical Case images.
